The Benefits of Ear Wax Removal

Ear wax plays a vital role in ear health, acting as a natural cleanser that traps dirt and slows bacteria. However, too much ear wax can lead to discomfort, blocked hearing, and even infections.

Left untreated, it may cause symptoms like ear pain, itching, dizziness, and trouble hearing. Our ear wax removal services offer a safe, effective step towards clearer hearing and better connection.

What to Expect

Your visit begins with a thorough ear examination using our video otoscope, allowing you to see inside your ear canal on screen. We’ll discuss any symptoms you’re experiencing and review your hearing health history to determine the most appropriate treatment approach for your needs.

We use Irrigation and a lighted curette for safe and effective ear wax removal. This modern approach is comfortable and allows our specialists to work with precise control, ensuring your comfort throughout the procedure.

After your treatment, we’ll provide personalized recommendations for maintaining ear health at home. This includes proper cleaning techniques, ways to prevent excessive wax buildup, and signs that might indicate you need another professional cleaning. We’ll also schedule follow-up care if needed.

Following your ear wax removal, we offer a complimentary hearing assessment to establish your baseline hearing levels. This comprehensive test helps identify any underlying hearing concerns and ensures your hearing is functioning at its best. We’ll explain your results in detail and discuss any recommendations for ongoing care.

Frequently Asked Questions

Signs and symptoms of earwax: Hearing loss sudden or gradual, ear aches, itchy ears, feeling like your ears are blocked or full, ringing in your ears (tinnitus), and dizziness.

Unless the earwax causes the symptoms described above, it is in most cases best to leave it alone. For the majority of people, ear wax does not cause any problems and there isn’t a need to remove it. The ear is self-cleaning. Ear wax helps expel dust and debris. It also protects the ear canal from infections.

Generally no, ear wax removal is usually quick and painless. In some cases if the wax has hardened over many years, some discomfort can occur during this process. Oil may be used prior to the appointment to soften hard wax to make the removal process easier. You may have to return for a second appointment after using oil if the removal is too painful at the initial appointment.

You should have wax removed if you are prone to excessive wax buildup and your ears do not sufficiently get rid of wax on their own. Your clinician will give you a schedule to return for your next ear wax removal. For most people, yearly is enough. Every six months or quarterly check ups may be recommended as we see fit.
